City Council Strives for a better "Look" through Architectural Standards
In January and again in February, the Oviedo City Council conducted work
sessions to discuss the City’s architectural standards and expressed
their concerns over the “look” of certain developments within the City.
Although most of the buildings constructed since the adoption of current
architectural standards have been a step above the minimum corporate
architecture (known as “Anywhere USA” architecture), City Council
concluded that the standards should be improved and that the
improvements will result in noticeably better architectural design.

New Economic Development Committee Formed
On March 18, 2008, the Oviedo City Council confirmed its final
appointment to the newly created Economic Development Committee (EDC),
which replaces the former Economic Development Task Force. Over the past
2½ years, the Task Force was instrumental in completing an Economic
Development Strategic Plan for the City, preparing an impact fee
incentive ordinance to entice new investment in the City, and in
building stronger relationships between City government and the Oviedo
business community.

City Awarded Additional Funding for SR 426/CR 419 Road Widening
The City’s #1 priority - the widening of SR 426 and CR 419 from Pine
Avenue to Lockwood Boulevard received an additional $3 million boost
from the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Regional
Incentive Program (known as TRIP). The City received official
notification of the additional funding in a letter from FDOT on February
19th.

The Oviedo City Council has invested in an Outdoor Tornado Siren Warning
System as part of a comprehensive approach towards mass alerting for
tornado severe weather events. Tornadoes are one of the most destructive
severe weather events that often result in serious injury and loss of
life and Florida is the second most likely state to experience tornado
activity.
